A strategic acquisition for PSE

The acquisition includes manufacturing rights for the Bug, Pico, Vago and Bahia dinghies, designed by Jo Richards. Now under the aegis of PSE, a division of Performance Marine Group Limited, the Ocean Play brand sees its distribution and management transferred, while production remains based in the UK. Rototek will continue to manufacture these yachts, with a program of refurbishment and tooling improvements already underway.
Expansion and ambition for Performance Sailcraft Europe

Nick Ogden, President of Performance Marine Group, emphasized that the integration of Ocean Play is part of a rapid expansion strategy. Since the acquisition of Performance Sailcraft in Australia, builder of the famous ILCAs (formerly Laser), the company has invested in new infrastructures, including a manufacturing unit in Morisset, meeting the standards of the Formula 1 automobile industry.

With this acquisition, PSE expands its portfolio to eight dinghy models in eight months, and plans to continue its global expansion in 2025. This year also marks 55 years of continuous production of the Laser, celebrated with a special Heritage "Weekender" edition. At the same time, the Rascal project, an endurance dinghy, is nearing launch after a successful 220-nautical-mile trial in the Adriatic.
Support from RS Marine Group and designer Jo Richards
Richard Frost, Director of Operations at RS Marine Group, said he was working closely with PSE to ensure a smooth transition. He stressed that the Ocean Play range will continue to offer enriching sailing experiences to enthusiasts around the world. For his part, Jo Richards, designer of the dinghies acquired, was delighted that quality production would be maintained, and that his designs would continue to stand the test of time.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, but the acquisition marks a key step in the evolution of Performance Sailcraft Europe, consolidating its leading role in the light dinghy market.
