The Suttel Group invests in a dry port in Carnon

The Suttel Group, headed by Jean-Frédéric Suttel, continues to expand in the dry port sector with a new investment in Carnon. Following the 2004 opening of Port on Land in Palavas-les-Flots, capable of accommodating 500 boats, a new 320-berth facility is due to open in late spring 2025.

The advantages of dry docking

Compared to a traditional harbor, a dry dock reduces maintenance costs for boat owners. By remaining out of the water, hulls are preserved, limiting fouling and technical interventions. " The cost of the site is still comparable to that of a floating port, but maintenance costs are lower" explains Jean-Frédéric Suttel.

A response to marina saturation

Faced with 54,000 unsatisfied requests for berths in France, dry ports are emerging as an alternative solution. With adapted infrastructures and rapid access to the sea, these facilities facilitate berth management while optimizing the space available on the coast. Carnon is part of this trend, following similar initiatives in Sète, Canet-en-Roussillon and Cap d'Agde.

The development of Carnon's dry port represents an investment of several million euros. Designed to offer an efficient service, it will make it possible to a boat in the water in less than 6 minutes . The experienced Suttel group won a 35-year concession to manage the site, following a call for tenders issued by the Mauguio town council.

New ambitions for the coast

With this second dry port, the Suttel Group has no intention of stopping there. It has its sights set on other sites in the Occitanie region, and is currently responding to two new invitations to tender for similar facilities on the Languedoc coast. This expansion confirms the group's determination to assert its expertise in the management and development of nautical infrastructures.

Founded by Jean Suttel in 1965, the Suttel group has a long tradition in nautical activities. A former concessionaire for the port of Balaruc-les-Bains, the company developed its boat hull manufacturing and port development activities before diversifying into motorcycles. Today, Jean-Frédéric Suttel continues this tradition by focusing on dry ports to meet the evolving needs of the yachting market.
