Modernizing the port of Barneville-Carteret: a forward-looking development

The marina at Barneville-Carteret, on the west coast of the Cotentin peninsula, is continuing to modernize with the construction of a new harbour office. The project is part of an eco-responsible approach and aims to enhance the attractiveness of the site for yachtsmen and yachting professionals.

For several years now, the port of Barneville-Carteret has been undergoing major modernization work. Following the extension of the marine infrastructure, due for completion in July 2021, the latest phase of this major project involves the construction of a new harbour office, designed to improve the welcome and services offered to yachtsmen.

A port extension to meet demand

The port of Barneville-Carteret has undergone a major transformation with the addition of around 300 new berths, bringing its total capacity to 716 afloat. The digging of an additional basin and the relocation of the harbor entrance have optimized space and enabled us to better meet the high demand from pleasure boaters.

A new port office adapted to today's needs

Formerly housed in a building dating back to 1995, the harbour office had become obsolete in the face of the contemporary demands of harbour management and user reception. Since January 2025, a new, modernized building has provided more functional and comfortable facilities for yachtsmen and the port team.

An eco-responsible project for a sustainable port

The new port office has been designed with the environment in mind. The infrastructure incorporates a 20,000-liter rainwater recovery tank to supply the sanitary facilities. Heat pumps provide hot water and heating, while solar panels installed on the roof contribute to the building's energy efficiency.

Financing provided by several players

The total cost of the project is 1.26 million euros, excluding taxes. Funding is shared between the Département de la Manche (200,000 euros), the French government as part of the Destination France "Ports de Plaisance d'Avenir" plan (252,000 euros), and other sources.

National recognition for a forward-looking port

In 2022, at the Nautic boat show, the port of Barneville-Carteret was singled out as one of the ten winners of the "Ports de Plaisance d'Avenir" call for projects. This program, supported by the Direction Générale des Affaires Maritimes, de la Pêche et de l'Aquaculture (DGAMPA), aims to support ports in their ecological transition and their development as modern, dynamic places of welcome.

Towards greater attractiveness

With these developments, the port of Barneville-Carteret affirms its ambition to become a model sustainable marina. This modernization should not only attract more yachtsmen, but also encourage other harbor infrastructures to follow this eco-responsible approach. The question of future developments and the need for additional infrastructure remains unanswered.
