Tahe Outdoor: store closure and industrial diversification to ensure long-term future

Faced with a slowdown in the water sports market, Tahe Outdoors is adopting a two-pronged strategy: relocate its store to Vannes and diversify into other industrial sectors.

Since May 2022, the outdoor leisure market has been experiencing a trend reversal after the post-Covid euphoria. The Tahe Outdoors Group, a specialist in windsurfing, surfing, kayaking and stand-up paddling, has to contend with more selective demand and a booming second-hand market.

Store relocation: a logistical and commercial challenge

Tahe Outdoors has decided to relocate its Ploeren store to its production site in the Prat area of Vannes. This decision is aimed at optimizing logistics by eliminating transport between the factory and the store, thus reducing costs and carbon footprint.

The initiative doesn't stop there: this new location will enable us to organize factory tours for surf schools and the general public. " We want to offer our customers an immersive experience, a real life experience "explains Renaud Lacoste, President of Tahe Outdoors . The new store is scheduled to open in March, with an inauguration in April attended by renowned athletes.

Historically focused on water sports, the company now intends to expand its industrial activities. Thanks to its extrusion and sheet injection technologies, Tahe Outdoors recovers and transforms plastic offcuts to supply components to other sectors, notably the automotive industry.

At present, this diversification accounts for 5% of its business, but the aim is to increase this proportion in order to reduce dependence on the marine leisure market. " We have the skills and infrastructure to broaden our range of activities "says Renaud Lacoste.

Autonomous rental stations to conquer new markets

Another strategic project is the development of stand-alone water sports equipment rental stations. In partnership with two companies in Brittany and south-west France, Tahe Outdoors equips these resorts with surfboards and paddles, offering an alternative to purchasing equipment.

A company with an international outlook

With over 100 employees in France (Vannes and Cognac), the United States and Australia, Tahe Outdoors generates sales of 18 million euros. Exports account for 85% of business, with strong markets in Italy, Spain and Japan.

By combining relocation, diversification and new offerings, Tahe Outdoors is seeking to reposition itself sustainably in order to face the current economic climate and secure its future in a changing market.
