500 additional berths and a new quay for the future port of Pornichet

With the end of the port concessions in 2026, the town of Pornichet has awarded a public service concession to a new concessionaire for the next 40 years. The new concession-holder will be responsible for a major overhaul of the existing facilities.

Only one proposal was submitted, and it was easily selected. A consortium comprising Charier, Legendre Génie Civil, Loire-Atlantique Nautisme and the commune will form a local semi-public company (SEML). The latter will be responsible for the design, construction and operation of the renovated port for a period of 40 years. Architect Jacques Rougerie, responsible for the Océanopolis museum in Brest, Nausicaa in Boulogne-sur-Mer and the Olympic marina in Marseille, has been selected to design the project.

The dyke of the grounding basin will be raised by 1.50 m, a height determined on the basis of a CEREMA study and the IPCC report. A floating annex to the harbourmaster's office will be installed in this basin. 80 moorings on buoys will be maintained, with rates identical to those currently in force. 470 berths on pontoon moorings will be created, offering access to water and electricity, as well as dry access, regardless of tide level. A pedestrian link will also be created between the pontoons and a greatly enlarged quay.

The quay, located to the right of the harbor access viaduct, will be extended by 8,000 m², with completion scheduled over a period of around 20 months. It will include a 1,700 m² multi-purpose area for events, boat displays and parking. After consultation with users, it was decided to build a new slipway for light craft.

The years 2025 and 2026 will be dedicated to studies and administrative authorizations. Maritime works will start in January 2027, including the extension of the quay and the reinforcement of the breakwater. The new port will be delivered in summer 2029.
