Ecological innovation in the boating industry, boat cleaning with a clean solution

AGL Marine distributes the Monawa range, an eco-responsible seawater desalination solution that reduces freshwater consumption in marinas and shipyards. Recently inaugurated in the port of Fréjus, this innovation promises to change boat cleaning practices.

Faced with the freshwater crisis and restrictions, innovative solutions are essential for yachting professionals. As part of its commitment to the environment, AGL Marine introduces the Monawa range, a desalination technology that transforms seawater into fresh water for port requirements.

Reduced freshwater consumption

The consumption of fresh water in marinas is a major problem, especially in a context of water restrictions and rainfall deficits. Current restrictions limit the use of water for cleaning boats and harbour infrastructures.

The Monawa range offers an innovative solution: use seawater for boat washing and produce fresh water by desalination for rinsing. This approach significantly reduces freshwater consumption, while meeting the needs of yachtsmen and yachting professionals.

Inauguration at the Port of Fréjus: a good example

Introducing new technologies to marinas poses challenges in terms of acceptance, training and adapting current practices. On June 7, 2024, the port of Fréjus inaugurated a harbor washing station using Monawa technology. This event could serve as a model for other ports across the continent.

2 free car washes

Like car washes, the Fréjus car wash has 2 berths at the pontoon. There's a signpost with instructions for boaters. The first part of the wash is done with filtered seawater, and only the rinse is done with clear water. This comes from a desalination station located in a container on the quay. Salt water is pumped from the port. At present, the container is connected to the electricity grid, but in future it may also be fitted with solar panels to further reduce its ecological impact.

Today, the entire water supply, both salt and fresh, is free of charge. A fee-based service may be introduced in the future.
