Accelerating the transition from composites to boats
For many years now, Saertex has been supporting the marine industry in the evolution of composite materials processing to improve environmental performance and operator comfort. The adoption of RTM and infusion processes has already reduced solvent emissions. Building on this momentum, Saertex is now working on greener materials, both through natural fibers and the introduction of recycled materials. With the new version of its fabrics dedicated to RTM, the new SAERcore®, SAERTEX is taking boating professionals to the next level, with an innovative fabric featuring a new core made from recycled synthetic materials, replacing the polypropylene of the first generation of SAERcore®.
Ready-to-use drainage fabric
New SAERcore® is composed of a 100% recycled and potentially recyclable synthetic core and two fiberglass skins. This self-draining fabric is ready to use. Depending on the thickness of the part and the desired mechanical properties, the weight of the core and glass-fiber skins can be varied. So, with a single New SAERcore® in a closed RTM mold, you can produce parts from 2 to 8 mm thick, with a beautiful gel-coated finish on both sides, in a single operation. New SAERcore® is compatible with all resins commonly used in the marine industry.
Optimizing work and productivity
In addition to environmental benefits, New SAERcore® brings customers operational and economic gains. The new-generation fabric structure speeds up the flow of resin into the part, reducing injection time. What's more, the fabric's excellent drapability, with no tooling required, facilitates pre-impregnation set-up and mold closing.
In conclusion, by replacing the standard RTM composite process without modification, New SAERcore® adds a gain in productivity to an increase in environmental performance.
