Italy's 1st hydrogen network for pleasure boats under construction
NatPower H, a subsidiary of the Italian NatPower Group, has announced plans for a network dedicated to recharging pleasure boats with hydrogen. The first station is scheduled to supply Italian yachtsmen with green hydrogen as early as summer 2024. With an announced investment of at least ?100 million over six years, NatPower H has set a target of 100 stations by 2030, with the aim of exporting its model to the European basin to become the leading recharging network for hydrogen-powered boats.
The company has signed a contract with Zaha Hadid Architects for the design of the stations, and has already teamed up with a number of major shipyards and manufacturers, including Baglietto, BluEnergy Revolution, Bluegame, Fichtner, Linde, Studio Maresca, S.i.g.e. and Tecma Solutions, and has already secured the support of 25 Italian marinas and marinas. NatPower is also a technical partner of the American Magig and Orient Express America's Cup challenges.
Helping to deploy hydrogen in yachting
Fabrizio Zago, CEO of the NatPower Group, explains his choice: "With a backlog of renewable energy projects that already exceeds 23 GW, we have decided to create NatPower H, the world's leading operator for the production, storage and supply of green hydrogen, to bring to life the world's first green hydrogen supply infrastructure for yachting. Indeed, we consider that hydrogen represents one of the most effective solutions for giving the impetus of the energy transition to the entire pleasure boating and yachting sector."
