Responding to drinking water shortages
AGL Marine is strongly committed to its CSR policy, and it's only natural that in 2023 it will be integrating its new partner ECOTANK with eco-responsible solutions. Richard Gibeaud, Sales Director, also explains the origin of this range: "For several years now, we've been pushing increasingly responsible products, as with our heavy-metal-free, biocide-free antifouling at Seajet and Hempel. Last summer, at a conference on the future of the yachting industry, the issue of water management came to the fore, as we questioned the wisdom of wasting so much drinking water to clean and careen our boats. What's more, over the past few years, we've seen an increasing number of restrictions on water use. Indeed, water shortages are being felt in many regions, and numerous prefectoral decrees prohibit the use of water in ports. I turned to Ecotank, one of our customers for many years, to see if they had a solution for using salt water instead. Together, we found the product and defined an offer for professionals, harbor stakeholders, boaters, and even beach managers."
Boat washes and beach showers
Monawa has developed a range of products.
Based on its all-stainless steel high-pressure cleaning system with specific membranes, the manufacturer offers washing systems that can use both salt and fresh water. Combined with a watermaker, it enables mixed cycles, as Richard Gibeaud explains: "For a fairing, you can start the cleaning with salt water, then finish by rinsing with fresh water. 100 bars of salt water is equivalent to stripping 150 bars of fresh water. This saves water and takes zero potable water from the mains."
Washing stations can be fixed, with a network at the pontoon, or mobile, transportable on a trailer as close as possible to the boat.
Monawa is also available on beaches. With a pump and advanced filtration system, it is possible for municipalities to make their beach showers independent of the network, either temporarily in the event of a ban, or permanently. Seawater is desalinated, used and then reprocessed before being returned to the network.
A wide range of customers
Monawa has already begun to win over market players, equipping several ports as early as summer 2023. The port of Fréjus has already installed a containerized system with a network on the quays and a 12 M3 storage tank. The system enables boaters to wash their boats without using drinking water, even during prefectoral bans.
Fixed installations will appeal to large marinas and careenage sites, while mobile units will be useful for smaller infrastructures and seaside construction sites. Local authorities and sailing clubs are also interested in showers.
