Danish electric boat specialist
Danish company EP Technologies was founded in 2013 with the KISS mantra for Keep It Simple, Stupid! Behind this, it develops electrical systems dedicated to marine propulsion for all types of professional passenger vessels, as well as pleasure boats. It is also interested in various technologies for storing electricity in lithium or solid batteries.
A range of thrusters
Since its creation, EP Technologies has developed a range of electric motor propulsion systems, including conventional shaft drives, saildrives from 10 to 95 kW, and outboards. Working with shipyards to develop tailor-made solutions, EP Technologies equips luxury units such as Sunreef and TIrilyacht, and has also collaborated with Hanse on the electric Hanse 410.
A steerable electric saildrive
The Danish manufacturer's latest innovation, presented at METSTrade 2023, is a steerable sail drive. This uses an existing manufacturer's baseplate, adapting an electric motor from 25 to 60 kW, with a voltage depending on the power required. Controlled by joystick, the system rotates through 360°, facilitating maneuvering without the need for a side thruster.
EP Technologies claims to be able to maintain speeds of 16 to 20 knots with its system, and to be able to adapt it to the type of boat, and its weight or length characteristics.
