Torqeedo: Batteries twice as powerful for greater boat autonomy

Torqeedo, the specialist in electric propulsion and motorization for boats, has unveiled a new high-power battery to meet the autonomy needs of large vessels with its Deep Blue motors

80 kWh batteries from Torqeedo

German manufacturer of electric motors for pleasure and work boats, Torqeedo, took advantage of the Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo in Amsterdam to present its new Deep Blue batteries. With double the capacity of the most powerful battery in the catalog to date, this Lithium Iron Phosphate - LiFePo - technology battery can store 80 kWh of electrical energy.

Using the latest assembly technologies, Torqeedo's new battery integrates the cells directly into a single block, without the need for sub-assemblies. As a result, the battery's energy density is significantly improved, at 278 Wh/L. It comes with a 10-year warranty for both professional and pleasure use.

Increasing boat autonomy

For Fabian Bez, CEO of Torqeedo, these new batteries open up the technical possibilities of electric boats. "In the past, lithium-iron-phosphate batteries took up too much space, but they've come a long way in the last two years. LiNMC batteries, which we also use in our product range, are still the best choice for many on-water applications because of their extremely high energy density. But LFP batteries have excellent longevity and safety, and are made from abundant raw materials, avoiding the high costs, ethical and environmental concerns and unstable supply of critical metals in today's fast-moving markets."
