A study to know the appetite of boaters for sustainable boating

The organizers of Boot Düsseldorf and the European Boating Industry have unveiled the conclusions of their study on the future of sustainable propulsion in yachting. The findings are encouraging, but highlight the work that still needs to be done.

A study on the future of recreational boat propulsion

The German Boat Show Boot and the European Boating Industry, which brings together the national boating trade associations in Europe, commissioned a study in early 2023, with the support of the German Automobile Club, on developments in recreational boat propulsion. Entitled The future of sustainable propulsion on the water, it was conducted by the Spanish firm Sea Tech SL with a panel of professionals in the construction of boats under 24 meters, marine engine manufacturers, associations and yachting enthusiasts.

Individual interviews allowed the Sea Tech team to collect relevant data on the expectations of boaters. These exchanges provide a vision of the public's attitude towards new propulsion systems in the boating industry.

A tool to strengthen the work of professionals

Details of the study are available in the trade visitor areas at the Boot. The sponsors of the study draw a positive conclusion, indicating that boaters definitely see sustainable solutions, whether in terms of propulsion or alternative fuels, in a positive light. Nevertheless, they remain concerned about price, range and safety issues. The findings of the study should also enable professionals to refine their offer.
