Expansion of the Chantier Naval de Provence : "We were reaching saturation point

The Provence shipyard doubles its surface area in Port de Bouc. A necessity for the boat refit specialist in view of its success, explains Ludovic Richard, its manager.

Doubling the capacity of the Chantier Naval de Provence

Installed in Port de Bouc since 2016, Chantier Naval de Provence has taken a new step in its development. The company, which specializes in the refit of professional and pleasure boats, doubled its surface area at the beginning of 2023, bringing its total surface area to 20,000 m2 by recovering one hectare on the adjacent land of the Grand Port Autonome de Marseille.

Space requirements

Well located and equipped with modern facilities, the site has been very successful since its creation. Ludovic Richard, its manager, explains how necessary this expansion was: "We are one of the few shipyards created in the Mediterranean in the last ten years, and our 10-meter wide dock is the second largest after Canet en Roussillon. With our custom-built 100-ton travel lift, width and draft we can take out monohulls up to 35 meters and large catamarans. Moreover, with the train station and airport nearby, we are ideally located. With 10,000 m2, we were quickly reaching saturation point. That's why we seized this land opportunity from the Port of Marseille, with the support of the municipality."

Future developments

As he had already planned, the entrepreneur already has other projects in mind for the coming years: "We already have the permit to build a workshop and offices. Discussions are underway with boat brands to serve as a support base for them to intervene on their Mediterranean-based units."

The success of the Provence shipyard is also a driving force for the local nautical industry. Several companies have set up shop in Port de Bouc, including a fittings company, a rigger and the engine manufacturer Volvo Penta.
