New workshop at Carina Ulixis
Created in Port Leucate in 2021, the Carina Ulixis shipyard continues its expansion. After a first general building dedicated to its refit activity, the company has invested in a new workshop dedicated to metalwork, working both in stainless steel and aluminum. Built in a modular way using containers, like the rest of the site, it offers a surface of 12 meters by 12 meters, to which is added the storage in containers. The equipment has been operational since January 2023.
Tools and fittings
The creation of this activity meets two needs. It allows Carina Ulixis to produce its own custom-made welded fittings. At the same time, the company, which has hired a welder dedicated to the activity, can build larger tools. Pascal Pouplier, the founder of the yard, explains: "We can now make our balcony parts and other custom fittings for our refit boats or customers, but also tooling for surrounding yards. We just made a deck turnaround part for Windelo catamarans."
Business knowledge
To fully meet the needs of its customers, Carina Ulixis has also recruited a design office engineer. This one relies on the knowledge of the shipyard to draw and calculate the different custom-made tools for the manufacturing of boats.
The yard does not intend to stop there and intends to progressively broaden the company's internal competences, in order to serve the owners in a global way, especially in the multihull sector, as its manager explains in conclusion: "We have created a tooling system that can be adapted to our trailer, which allows us to take out the Neel 51s in Port Leucate without a crane. The next workshop will be built at the end of 2023 to house a carpentry shop. Carina Ulixis continues to establish in Port Leucate a capacity to welcome multihulls that will find a complete service on site."
