A need for cohesion among sailmakers
Arrived at the end of December 2022 within the Incidence group, Rémi Aubrun took the head of all the group's design offices, which includes the various sites of Incidence Sails, Delta Voile, Technique Voile and the subsidiary Incidence Technologies. This position, newly created in the sailmaker, meets a need related to the growth of the company, as he explains: "There has been a lot of movement in the group, with the purchase of Technique Voile in 2022 and Delta Voile in 2020. The group felt the need for someone to give cohesion to all the design offices. I had left All Purpose and started my activity as a freelance designer and Incidence asked me to join. As I already knew all the designers from my professional experience or from the water, it made things easier. So I accepted."
Common work bases
For Rémi Aubrun, it is possible to find synergies between the design offices of different sailmakers, particularly by starting from common bases and work tools. "We can work on the same basis, with common tools, for example on planning management. We have starting sail molds, depending on the boat, the type of sail... Drawing from a common pot of shapes, with tried and tested things, is a gold mine. Within the group, we have access to know-how ranging from Optimist to cargo sails to Class40."
Keeping the image of the sailmakers
However, Rémi Aubrun insists on the need for diversity, because a yachtsman, cruiser or racer, does not go to Delta Voile, Technique Voile or Incidence with the same expectations. "My role is for everyone to work together, not to be uniform or specialize. We want to keep the versatility. In a design office, the confrontation of ideas is the way to progress. We want to preserve the image of sailmakers. If Delta wants to make a specific sail, he can ask Incidence to help him, but he will keep his know-how and his way of manufacturing. We have some very good designers and we can all progress behind these frontrunners."
