A motion for maritime technologies
As a consultative body of the European Commission, the European Economic and Social Council adopted on November 14, 2022 a motion concerning the maritime domain. The assembly, which brings together representatives of workers and companies and other intermediary bodies, has the task of providing informed opinions to the legislative and executive bodies of the European Union. The text voted by the assembly concerns the need for an industrial strategy in the marine technology sector, around 4 main areas: improving market access and fair competition conditions, employment and skills, access to finance and Research, Development and Innovation.
Areas identified in the yachting industry
Among the avenues of work mentioned, the council cites important issues for the boating industry. The motion calls for a plan to renew the recreational boat fleet by supporting refit opportunities for existing boats to stimulate demand for new green technologies. It also calls for EU funding for the dismantling and recycling of end-of-life recreational craft, as well as for R&D operations in green and innovative technologies.
European Boating Industry, representing the national federations of nautical companies, through its president Jean-Pierre Goudant, welcomes the objectives. "As mentioned by the Council, the time to support a benchmark sector of the marine industry, such as yachting, is now. "
