A solution from the water sports industry
ZeroJet originated in 2014 with the creation of the Jetsurf Experience Centre in Perth, Australia by its two founders Bex and Neil. The latter started renting and selling motorized surfboards. But they quickly realized that the thermal engines associated with the boards' turbines were a hindrance. Back in New Zealand in 2015, they launch Voltaic Jetboards, to develop with 4 engineers surfboards with electric motors.
In 2019, faced with the success of electric boards, they are convinced of the relevance of adapting electrically powered jets to boats. After a first prototype, they renamed the company ZeroJet and raised funds in 2020 to come up with a first version. In 2022, ZeroJet presented its 2nd generation model at the METS Trade.
An integrated drive system
The 2nd generation ZeroJet incorporates a 14 kW DC motor weighing only 20 kg. It is delivered directly attached to the jet turbine with its bucket for steering.
The control can be done with a classic steering wheel and cables, completed with a control screen or with a tiller.
The Zero-Jet operates with a 48V battery pack developed by the company with the SuperB brand. Depending on the boat and the required autonomy, two capacities of 5 kWh or 10 kWh are proposed.
Electrify the annexes
Zerojet's primary focus is on dinghies and lightweight boats, both rigid and semi-rigid hulls. The dinghy brand OC for Offshore Cruising Tenders has developed 4 rigid carbon models equipped with ZeroJet. The equipment manufacturer is targeting other OEM markets with shipyards.
