A new skill for Dream Racer Boats
The Finisterian company Dream Racer Boats, specialized in the fitting out, refit and preparation of boats, acquired a 3D scanner less than a year ago. Thanks to this new equipment, it is able to make precise and fast surveys of boats. It can be used for both interiors and exterior hull surfaces.
"It is a significant time saver compared to manual dimensioning. In addition, it also saves time and money in terms of travel. Once the scan is done, we have all the dimensions and we can work remotely, without having to return to the site because a measurement is missing. To give you an idea, the survey of a 30-foot boat takes about half a day and the data processing to obtain the file also takes half a day. We have already been able to test it a few times and now offer the activity officially" explains Thibaud Ramond, founder of Dream Racer Boats.
A service for boaters and yachting professionals
The acquisition of such a machine needs to be profitable. The entrepreneur wants to maximize the use of the machine around 2 main activities.
The first is for boaters, direct customers of Dream Racer Boats. In this case, the 3D scan of the boat will be used mainly to define the precise plans for the interior layout of a refit project. "We just had a case for a Kaïdoz where the customer wants to review the layout of the sailboat. This allows us to make precise plans with useful details for the yachtsman who will assemble the layout kit that we will send him" illustrates Thibaud Ramond.
Dream Racer Boats' 3D scan can also be used by other marine companies for survey services. "We can check the geometry of the hull or deck after assembly. We can also do interior surveys for professionals who make composites, but call on fitters," says the director of Dream Racer Boats, confident about the variety of possible services.
