End of a long strike at Fountaine-Pajot
The labor dispute at the Charente-based catamaran builder Fountaine-Pajot was resolved on December 15, 2021 with the signing of an agreement between management and unions. The strike, which began on December 3, will have lasted 10 days at France's number 2 yacht manufacturer. This is a particularly long period in a nautical sector that is not used to these movements. This strike comes in a national context of tense wage negotiations in many sectors, particularly those in tension in the recruitment of labor, as is the case of the yacht building industry.
Launched by the CFDT-FO-CGT inter-union, it continued without the CFDT, with demands for wage increases in view of the company's very good results and the inflationary economic situation impacting the cost of living for employees based in the highly sought-after area of La Rochelle.
A gesture towards the low paid
Management has slightly modified its initial proposals for a uniform 3% pay rise for all employees, adding a minimum increase of 0.55 euros for the lowest salaries, close to the minimum wage. Signed by the CFDT, the agreement falls short of the initial expectations of the unions, which were calling for an hourly increase of 1.50 euros gross for all. Employee representatives fear that the effects of the increase granted will be quickly erased by the high inflation expected in 2022.
