Supporting former CN customers Franck Roy
After the judicial liquidation of the shipyard specializing in neo-classical pleasure boats, which he founded in 1998 and sold in 2019 to Romuald Tuffery, Franck Roy received many calls from former owners. "I had a loyal clientele, with very good relationships. As a result, when they learned what had happened, many former customers called me, who wanted me to work for the maintenance of their boats. They wanted me to take over the maintenance" he says.
An individual shipyard
Having moved to Brittany for family reasons after selling his Charente-Maritime shipyard, the classic yacht specialist decided to stop his new activity as a boatbuilding trainer at the AFPA to create a new structure near Auray in Morbihan. "The new shipyard is called YCR for Yor (Roy in reverse) Classic Yacht Refit. It is a small structure to work alone. I don't want to set up a big shipyard with employees", says Franck Roy.
Refit of the CN Franck Roy sailboats and beyond
Installed on a 200 m² plot of land, YCR is primarily dedicated to boat maintenance and refit, completed by a little storage, but not large-scale winter storage. "I have three Solenns in storage for which we had agreed with the owners and the buyer of the shipyard, but the land remains small. The idea is above all to maintain and refit all the small Loup, Morgan and other one-designs from Arcachon that I have built. Today, rebuilding large new boats is not on the agenda. Maybe a small unit from time to time, but there is already a good volume of activity in maintenance. I don't limit myself to the boats I've built either. I have a background in marine carpentry and anything that involves epoxy wood interests me. If I have to change the planking of a Muscadet or Corsaire, I can do that too!" concludes Franck Roy.
