MarineMax acquires Intrepid Powerboats
MarineMax Group announced on October 5, 2021 the proposed acquisition of Intrepid Powerboats. It will thus add to its catalog a brand of high-end powerboats known in the U.S. market for its custom units. The Florida-based shipyard had sales of $60 million over the last 12 months. The transaction is expected to be completed by December 31, 2021 and be effective within 12 months.
From dealer to boat builder
This transaction confirms the American yachting group's desire to evolve. It is the 2nd acquisition of a shipyard after that of Cruiser Yachts, earlier in May 2021. The largest seller of boats in the United States, MarineMax is an international distributor with 100 locations worldwide, including 77 dealerships and 31 marinas and marinas. The group also has famous brokerage companies such as Northrop and Johnson and Fraser Yachts, acquired in 2019. With the acquisition of Intrepid Powerboats, the group completes its service offering with the production of goods. This development confirms a fundamental trend in the nautical industry in the current period, with the concentration and emergence of multi-activity groups, similar to the opening up of the Brunswick or Bénéteau groups towards services such as chartering, boat clubs or marina management.
