Brunswick Group invests in lithium battery brand

Brunswick acquires Relion batteries

The Brunswick Group and its ASG division are strengthening their commitment to the electrification of recreational boats by acquiring a new brand of lithium batteries. At the same time, a technology center dedicated to electric boats will be established in Michigan.

Brunswick acquires battery manufacturer RELiON

Leading U.S. recreational vehicle manufacturer Brunswick Group announced on September 1, 2021, that it has acquired battery supplier RELiON. The company, founded in 2014, specializes in lithium ion batteries and power management in the marine and recreational vehicle sectors. Based in South Carolina and Seattle, it offers low-voltage electricity storage solutions from 12V to 48V. The company will become part of the Advanced Systems Group (ASG) division, which includes the OEMs of the Brunswick Group.

Accelerating Brunswick's Electric Boat Strategy

The acquisition announcement supports the strategy announced by Brunswick management prior to the summer of 2021, dubbed Next Wave, which includes a focus on the development of electric boats. "The acquisition of RELiON perfectly complements our existing portfolio of advanced battery and power management brands, such as Mastervolt, ProMariner and Blue Sea Systems. We are at the beginning of a growing adoption of battery systems for both propulsion and onboard hospitality needs," said Brett Dibkey, president of ASG.

In parallel with the acquisition, the Brunswick Group announced the opening of the Electrification Technology Center in Michigan at the end of 2020, which will work specifically on the development of high-voltage battery solutions.
