Boating and gender equality: conferences to promote the feminization of the yachting sector

Isabelle Joschke is the godmother of the 1st Assises Nautisme et Mixité

In September 2021, La Trinité-sur-Mer will host its 1st Assises Nautisme et Mixité. Nathalie Grubac explains us the genesis of the event, its development and its ambitions to strengthen the place of women in the nautical sector.

1st Nautical and Mixed Gender Conference

The port of La Trinité-sur-Mer will host the 1st edition of the Assises Nautisme et Mixité on September 10, 2021. The event, a prelude to the Fifty-Fifty sail, a regatta reserved for mixed crews organized for the last 3 years in the Morbihan harbor, should bring together 300 representatives of the yachting industry for round tables around gender diversity and the place of women in the sector.

Deconstructing the codes of boating

"The Fifty Fifty Sail was created by our association to raise funds for a program of reconstruction through sport for women victims of violence. We also do it in cycling and running. This inevitably leads to an interest in the status of women in society and gender diversity. In order to establish ourselves on a long-term basis and to be credible, and not just to be an alibi for regattas, last year we held the first women's meetings. In 2021, we are moving up a gear. The goal is to deconstruct the codes of the nautical industry and to show the added value of gender diversity, while trying to understand what prevents it from developing within the industry. To highlight the female talents that the industry is deprived of" explains Nathalie Grubac, member of the organization of the 1st Assises Nautisme et Mixité.

Examine the yachting industry from the point of view of the economy, training and sport

The program of the conference will include 3 round tables, each focusing on a theme from the angle of gender diversity and the feminization of the industry. The first will be devoted to the economic aspect, through the obstacles to the hiring and development of women in yachting companies and successful examples in other sectors. The second will focus on training and its openness to women candidates for nautical professions, whether on board or on land. The third will focus on women in water sports, their visibility and their place on board and in institutions. The organization will rely on professional speakers, Cathy Millien, Isabelle Joschke or Yves le Blévec and partners such as INB, FFVoile, ENVSN or Campus des Métiers et des Qualifications du Nautisme,
