Opening of Lancelin Palma
French rope specialist La Corderie Lancelin has opened its first concept store for the 2021 season. Named Lancelin Palma, the store has been set up in partnership with the company's Spanish distributor. It is located near the port of Palma, the nerve center of the Balearic Islands.
A friendly place for riggers and sailors
For Nicolas Lancelin, the opening of the store responds above all to a need for a social link, while providing a service to his local customers. "It's a joint project with our distributor, carried out on a whim, without objectives or forecasts. We realized that with the Covid, many boat preparers found themselves without a place to work. They couldn't always get on board and ended up having to work on the pontoons. They needed places to work, but also to shower etc... So we imagined a friendly place. It's a place to buy ropes, make splices and prepare your rig, but also to drink coffee, plug in your computer and chat. It's a place to share. It's important because we saw during the crisis that we were all rushing together, headlong towards a non-goal," says the head of the family business from Mayenne.
At a time when marinas are indicating that they are thinking about new uses and infrastructures, the initiative of the Corderie Lancelin could inspire managers, revealing the needs of professionals, who are often itinerant in third places combining professional premises and daily life activities.
An accessible showcase in the Balearic Islands
Lancelin Palma is also a valuable addition to the Balearic Islands and Spain for the French rigging company. "We have a big rigger in Palma for big boats (Editor's note: A+ Rigging). But we had no one for boats under 60 to 80 feet. It was a pity because we are quite present on these slots too. It's also a way to showcase our name, which is not always known by boaters" concludes Nicolas Lancelin.
