A modern and large paint booth
Since its move in 2017 to new premises near the port of Crouesty, the Redo shipyard has a latest generation paint booth. With a useful length of 25 m, it has 2 entrances with a height under gate of 6 m, allowing a continuous circulation of boats in forward motion. The nave can accommodate two boats simultaneously. Its large cell is equipped with a vacuum cleaner of 18,000 m3/hour, capable of renewing the air entirely in 5 minutes. A heater ensures that the temperature and humidity are maintained. "This way, we can control the optimal application conditions of the paints, even in winter," says Eric Martin, manager of the site. "We check the temperature of the hulls with an infrared thermometer before each application in order to precisely respect the recommendations of the paint manufacturers."
The team also has all the appropriate equipment, with pressure pots for priming and guns for finishing decks and hulls.
A qualified and mobile team
Among the staff of the Redo shipyard, a technician is entirely dedicated to the preparation of the boats before painting. Eric Martin is in charge of the application and finishing of the paint. If the shipyard's tool is obviously privileged, the teams can implement their know-how directly on other sites at the request of the customer. The Redo shipyard is recognized as an application center by the high-end marine paint brand Alexseal.
Painting boats or equipment for nautical professionals
Since the inauguration of its new equipment, the Chantier du Redo has mainly worked for private boaters, but it wishes in parallel to develop the work for professionals in the boating industry. "We made 13 boats in 2020, but we have the capacity to handle twice that number today. We also offer painting services for builders of new boats in small series for custom decorations or refit yards that do not have the appropriate equipment. We can also paint series of small parts. In fact, we have already done paint production for companies that needed more than 300 parts per year" explains Eric Martin.
He concludes by emphasizing the value of a quality painting service. "It is a real added value for the boat. We have cases of customers who were about to sell their boat, tired of seeing it age, who finally, after painting, fell in love with it again. They are even more beautiful than a brand new boat that has just been manufactured..."
