BRP invests to go electric on land and at sea!

BRP wants to convert its Seadoo jet skis to electric motors

The Canadian group BRP will accelerate its development of electric vehicles on land and at sea. The owner of Seadoo jet-skis has announced a $300 million development plan over five years in Europe and North America.

An electric model in all BRP lines by 2026

The Canadian group BRP, if it has stopped its brand of outboard motors Evinrude, remains present in the boating industry, especially through the brand of personal motor vehicles or jet-ski Seadoo. While it has not given any information on the progress of the Ghost project, which is presented as an alternative to traditional outboard motors, it has just shown its willingness to accelerate the arrival of electric mobility, especially at sea. BRP will invest $300 million over five years to offer an all-electric model in each of its activities (on the road, on snow and on the water) and each of its product lines. The first production model is to be introduced by 2023.

Industrial investment in electric motors and batteries

To carry out its strategy, the BRP group will invest on both sides of the Atlantic. In addition to recruiting engineers specializing in electric mobility, the company will expand its Austrian site in Gunskirchen, which develops Rotax electric motors. It will become the motorization division. On the other hand, it will also open the BRP electric vehicle development center in Valcourt, Quebec, designated as the energy division. Equipped with test benches and state-of-the-art robotic tools for manufacturing electric cells for batteries, it will focus on energy storage and recharging systems and their integration on board jet skis.
