The port of Concarneau taken over by the Syndicat Mixte départemental in 2022
Concarneau town hall and the Syndicat Mixte des ports de pêche-plaisance de Cornouaille have made official their agreement for the management of the rings reserved for pleasure boaters in the Finisterian port. At the head of the Concarneau marina since 27 December 1982 after taking over from the CCI, the municipality was the concessionaire until 31 December 2026. The parties finally decided to shorten the concession to allow the transfer of the management of the outer harbour of Concarneau and the anchorages of the Kersaux cove managed by the town to the Syndicat Mixte as of 1 January 2022. It will join 6 other marinas in southern Finistère: Douarnenez (Rosmeur), Audierne, Saint-Guénolé-Penmarc'h, Le Guilvinec-Léchiagat, Loctudy-Ile Tudy, Lesconil. The Syndicat Mixte will then manage 20% of the stopovers and 15% of the places in Finistère.
Departmental port policy
"Discussions with the concessionaire commune on a possible shortening of the concession contract were engaged as early as 2017, prior to the constitution of the Syndicat Mixte, with the aim of creating a management collective on the scale of the 7 marinas of the Syndicat Mixte and also to be able to implement the yachting development project initiated within the framework of the development plan for the port carried out in 2013" explains Michaël Quernez, President of the Syndicat Mixte. Questioned on the pricing policy, he underlines, without indicating an increase or a reduction, the necessity for homogeneity of tariffs and services. The tariff policy of the Syndicat Mixte in all its ports is to offer an identical level of service at an identical tariff, whatever the port place concerned, so as to have an equitable treatment of all users"
A fuel station for boaters and development studies
In the short term, the Syndicat Mixte underlines its willingness to reactivate a refuelling offer for pleasure boaters, as the current pump has been closed for safety reasons. The remainder of the investments are the subject of studies, already financed by the Syndicat Mixte to review the development plan of the port, notably the possible opening of a technical zone for yachtsmen. "The Syndicat Mixte works in close liaison with the Region, owner of the whole port and member of the Syndicat. It participates in and finances the development study carried out by the Region which is currently underway. The project for a technical careening zone situated within the perimeter of the port managed by the Region will be re-investigated by the study," says its president. Questioned about the coordination in terms of investment between the ports of the Concarneau basin, he added: "The municipal port of Port La Forêt is managed by the SEM SODEFI which I chair and of which the Departmental Council is also a member of the Syndicat mixte. Regular exchanges take place between the teams on various port issues including equipment. We did it for example for the installation of François Gabart in Concarneau"
