Gruissan marina: "We've doubled the number of handlings"

Handling in the technical area of the Gruissan marina

Jean-Claude Méric, general manager of the Gruissan marina, looks back on the support operations carried out by the manager for the yachting professionals installed in the Occitan port and gives the first results.

An operation to allow port professionals to work during containment

Managed by the Tourist Office of Gruissan, the marina of the Mediterranean municipality, with 1630 moorings, has set up different devices to support the nautical professionals installed within its walls. "There are about forty nautical companies on the resort, 12 of which are installed in the marina. In parallel with the 50% reduction in rents on the AOTs in 2020, a rather original system has been put in place. Like everyone else, we have been looking for solutions and the idea came up in our regular discussions with the professionals of the technical zone. The port has remained open, maintaining the crane activity. We made an agreement with the professionals. They take care of taking the boat from the yachtsman to the crane free of charge and bringing it back to its place when it is launched. Besides, the port does not charge for handling. The professionals are paid on the service provided ashore" summarises Jean-Claude Méric, general manager of the Gruissan marina.

Saturation of the technical area of the port of Gruissan

The operation is a great success according to its initiator. "In November, we did twice as many handlings as in 2019. We have saturated the spaces in the technical area and that has given the port's professionals a boost," Jean-Claude Méric is pleased to say. The extension of the confinement until 15 December, and the limitation of movements to 20 kilometres, still makes it impossible for the customers of the port of Gruissan, who are mainly based in the Toulouse, Lyon or Paris regions. In view of the success of the operation, the manager decided to maintain the offer for orders placed until that date. The work must be carried out for a relaunch of the boat before the end of January 2021.

While each local configuration justifies different actions, the initiative carried out and financed by the EPIC in charge of the Gruissan marina could inspire future plans to help the nautical sector.
