The Campus des Métiers et des Qualifications du Nautisme en Occitanie is creating a new university diploma called Gestion des Ports de Plaisance Nautisme Fluvial et Environnement. Its operational director, Guillaume Philippe, explains to us the genesis of the training and its inclusion in a port and nautical landscape facing a necessary change.

A response from the Campus du Nautisme to the needs expressed by marinas

The Campus of Nautical Trades and Qualifications in Occitania, more simply called Nauti Campus, was created in August 2018. It brings together secondary and higher education institutions, training organisations, research laboratories, institutional partners and private companies in the nautical and recreational boating sector. "We have several missions: supporting the sector in R&D by acting as a link between professionals and the research laboratories of the establishments, promoting the professions and creating new or innovative training courses. It is within this framework that the campus was approached by the Union of Port Cities of Occitania (UVPO) to respond to its problems in finding training courses that correspond to its needs. The advantage of the Campus network is the possibility of tailor-made courses, which has enabled us to create our university diploma in Management of Recreational Marinas, River Nautism and Environment (G2PNE)" explains Guillaume Philippe, operational director of Nauti Campus.

A tailor-made offer to renew management and port teams

The change in the operation of marinas and the modification of the age pyramid of the marina managers requires an evolution and a recruitment policy. "It appears that the current managers will soon be retiring and the yachtsmen are only looking for a boat garage. The challenge is therefore to renew managers and adapt to new skills. Innovative regional funding has also been found via a call for projects from the region for innovative training courses," continues Guillaume Philippe.

The one-year, 200-hour continuing education course, which lasts one week per month during the winter season, is designed for port employees wishing to improve their skills or for job seekers. 12 places are available. Sheltered by the Institut d'Administration des Entreprises (IAE) of Perpignan, the training is given by university professors, port directors and stakeholders such as the regional natural park.

A training that could be exported

The G2PNE diploma could develop outside of Occitania. "We have a goal of 3 consecutive years to meet local needs. After that there is the possibility that the training could be exported elsewhere. Other specific trainings are created by the Campus in sailmaking, saddlery or carpentry" concludes the director of Nauti Campus.
