Maritime and nautical employment: "A revival fair"

The Pro&Mer exhibition will be held at the Palais des Congès in Lorient

The Pro&Mer trade fair dedicated to employment in the maritime sector is scheduled for 3 November 2020 in Lorient. Anne-Marie Cuesta, General Delegate of Bretagne Pôle Naval, organiser of the show, explains the ambitions of the event in an extraordinary economic context.

Pro&Mer: The 2020 maritime job fair maintained

Although the health situation linked to the Covid19 epidemic makes the holding of any public event uncertain, the Pro&Mer exhibition remains on the calendar to this day. The 2020 edition of the job fair for the maritime sector, from the civilian naval to the military navy, including boating and renewable marine energies, should be held on 3 November 2020. For the 7th time, it will bring together companies from the sector, alongside training centres and institutions, at the Palais des Congrès in Lorient.

A special edition

Anne-Marie Cuesta, General Delegate of Bretagne Pôle Naval (BPN), the regional professional association behind the event, underlines the exceptional nature of the 2020 edition of Pro&Mer, which goes beyond the health context. "This show is exceptional in many ways, particularly the regularity of the professional exhibitors. This year we will have 98 companies (Editor's note: 114 announced in 2019) and 1,300 job offers outside the French Navy. More than 4000 with this one. This is a great vintage in terms of offers, with in particular proposals for internships and work-study programmes, which are important at a time when young people are struggling to find them. Many of the people we met described it as a revival fair for the maritime professions" she is delighted to say.

Boating in development and bridges between maritime sectors

Born from the shipbuilding and ship repair sector, the event has opened up to the maritime world over time. "The variety of companies present, with a very wide and increasingly extensive coverage, should be highlighted. Fishing, renewable marine energies, composites and nautical industries are increasingly present. There are the offers of Bretagne Emploi Nautisme, but also CDK in ocean racing, small yachting yards or the INB for training" lists the BPN general delegate.

In a context of slowing activity in certain areas, Pro&Mer wishes to act as a bridge between the different areas of the maritime sector. "We are going to strengthen the CV advice workshops to enhance skills. This may make it possible to establish a link between the sectors in order to possibly change while waiting for a sector to get back on its feet" concludes Anne-Marie Cuesta.
