Launch of the pre-series of the 1st RIM6 thrusters
Under development since 2018, Hy-Génération's electric thrusters are taking a new direction. The company starts marketing pre-series production of its first model called RIM6. " Today 2 prototypes are in service on a river boat as main propulsion. The pre-sales of this 1st model of 6 kW, bridleable for boats without a licence, aim to freeze and standardise elements, to advance in industrialisation. They are open until the end of 2020 and the delivery target is April 2021, in time for the season. We would like to reach at least 10 units" explains Rémi Champeaux, founder of the company and inventor of the product.
Better phasing of technical innovations
Prototype tests led the Breton company to rethink the pace of its development. "We wanted to make too many innovations all at once and it was difficult to interpret the results. So we're going to split up the stages, in particular with fixed blades for the first series of thrusters," says Rémi Champeaux. Indeed, among the innovations of the RIM6 prototypes, one of the most striking was the self-adjusting pitch blade system, to optimise torque and energy consumption. It was delayed to consolidate the initial design.
In addition, returns on the first thrusters led Hy-Génération to file a patent on a nozzle shape improving the efficiency of the RIM6 in reverse.
Continue business development
To ensure the commercial success of its electric thrusters, Hy-Génération has welcomed a new partner since the summer. Guénael Roux's mission is to work on RIM6 outlets, such as port easement, pleasure boating on inland and river waterways or as a secondary propeller for sailing boats.
By working in partnership with other companies, Hy-Génération wanted to simplify the installation project for the yachtsman. The themes of electrification and energy storage are dealt with by the partners.
At the request of prospects, Hy-Génération is also working on a 12kW to 15 kW thruster.
