From show to pleasure
The company My Smartboat was founded in September 2019 in Concarneau. Its founder, Romain Portail, a navigation enthusiast, was previously technical director in the entertainment industry. After training at the INB and some experience in the nautical industry, he took the next step in the creation of his company. "I was already a bit of a geek. My goal today is to help digitalize the nautical industry. I'm aiming in particular at boatyards, dealerships and also boat hire agencies" explains the entrepreneur, who is active all over Brittany.
Digitizing boating companies
To this end, My Smartboat relies on the distribution and installation of various hardware and software solutions. For the operational aspect, it distributes the software and the Nauticoncept box which allows a follow-up of the technicians' work sites and the history of the boats. For the management of contracts, invoicing and schedules, it relies on Nautic Manager, while the CRN and customer follow-up are ensured with the Dune Gestion Boat software, connectable to Nauticoncept.
"My calls come, for example, from HR assistants in shipyards who need a justification tool for invoicing or in the event of a dispute. The software is also a way to manage the after-sales service, determine the manufacturer's and dealer's share, analyse and improve future quotations" explains Romain Portail. "I also have a training and support role in the deployment of the tool, with technicians and managers, to ensure its implementation and acceptability by the teams"
Home automation and energy management on board the boat
"I want to make home automation accessible" continues the founder of My Smartboat. To do this, he offers for private individuals or new construction projects, tailor-made solutions, adapted to the boat with existing electronic equipment and in-house programming. The yachtsman can thus remotely monitor his energy consumption or check the temperature parameters on board. Nor is electronics an end in itself for the young founder, who sees it as an environmental tool. "I recommend the equipment, install it and provide all the explanations. What I'd like to do is teach people how to manage their energy on board. People pay attention to their water consumption on board. I would like to allow them to do the same thing with their batteries as they do with their fresh water tank," concludes Romain Portail.
