More boat sales in 2019
The nautical year studied by Bretagne Info Nautisme runs from September 2018 to the end of August 2019. During this period, 17,220 transactions were recorded in the region. The increase is 4% compared to the previous year. The registered fleet of 252,766 recreational boats represents 24% of the French fleet.
New boats account for 12% with 2068 sales, the remaining 15150 transactions concerning second-hand boats. Motor boats represent 78% of boaters' purchases. Brittany takes second place nationally behind the PACA region for the number of transactions.
More new boats
The sale of new boats is on the rise throughout Brittany, except in Ille-et-Vilaine. It shows an increase of 7%, compared to 3% at the national level. Motor boats posted a strong increase of +9%, while sailing stagnated at +1%.
The share of units less than 6 metres in length is retracted. The transition from boaters to outboard motors and semi-rigid boats continues, while the sale of multihulls for the first time in several years has declined.
The second-hand market remains stable
While its growth is lower, the second-hand market remains the most important, with 90% of transactions. It increases by +3%, in line with the national trend and homogeneously between units longer and shorter than 6m. As with new boats, outboard motors and semi-rigid boats carry the market, while sailboats remain stable.
