Strong mobilization against the marina of Brétignolles
As we have already mentioned here, the brétignolles-sur-Mer marina project in Vendée is more than 20 years old. The desire to create a basin of 950 rings has since been strongly opposed in the city and region. Since the announcement in summer 2019 of the project's declaration of public utility, events have accelerated sharply. While the preparatory work has barely begun, the local collective and many associations, such as Surfrider Foundation, Sea Shepherd, Attac or France nature environnement have called for a demonstration on the site of La Normandelière. They mobilized, under the #Balancetonport slogan, between 1500 and 2500 demonstrators, depending on the sources, including elected officials. Opponents denounce the destruction of a sensitive environment and a wetland for an oversized port.
Towards a ZAD of the port of Bretignolles?
The first machines went into action at the beginning of October 2019 at the Normandelière site. While the first trees were being felled, bulldozers began to move the sand dune that was to give way to the harbour access channel. But since the demonstration on 6 October, activists have been trying to block the progress of the work. Several call for the creation of a Brétignolles ZAD. According to France 3, about twenty people settled around the site on private land to occupy the area. The work was interrupted, "for safety reasons", says the Town Hall of Brétignolles-sur-Mer.
