Labelling of the Campus du Nautisme (Boating Campus)
A Nautical Campus will be created in the Pays de la Loire region. The dossier presented by the Nantes Rectorate was awarded the label of Campus of Trades and Qualifications by the Ministry of Education on 9 August 2018. This scheme, created in 2013, enables the regions to develop and structure training offers by sector. The new campus linked to the world of yachting joins those dedicated to aeronautics and fashion.
Bringing together regional players in the yachting sector
"Obtaining the label is very recent, but we've already got letters of intent from several dozen players in the nautical sector in the region. There are training establishments such as the Lycée Eric Tabarly in Les Sables d'Olonne, the IUT in Nantes, engineering schools, or other centres that issue complementary titles, but also industrialists such as Bénéteau or NV Equipment and institutions such as the Chamber of Commerce and Industry or the town of Les Sables d'Olonne. The aim is to create more links between companies and training establishments," explains Gwenaelle Carnot, in charge of the Trade and Qualifications Campus at the Nantes rectorate. "The nautical campus will facilitate the placement of learners in companies and adapt training to the needs of professionals."
Shared governance with the boating industry
Although the award of the label is still too fresh to talk about concrete actions, the campus is starting to take shape. The rectorate is recruiting an operational director for the nautical campus, based in Les Sables d'Olonne. "The campus is regional, but it is anchored in Les Sables d'Olonne with the proximity of Bénéteau," says Gwenaelle Carnot. It will be run in a collegial manner by the Nantes rectorate and the Pays de la Loire region. The presidency will be entrusted to an industrialist, associated with the operational choices. The year 2018 will be devoted to the structuring of the Nautics campus, whose actions may begin at the start of the 2019 academic year.
