A wide range of feathering propellers
The German manufacturer SPW manufactures many models of propellers for recreational boats, from 2 to 5 blades, fixed, folding or feathered. The Variprop range, developed for sailboats, is available with 2, 3 or 4 blades. It is equipped with an automatic feathering mechanism when sailing under sail. With standard diameters ranging from 12 to 32 inches, or 305 to 813 mm, Variprop propellers cover the needs of a wide range of recreational boats. Sizes larger than 50 inches are available on request.
Hydrodynamic efficiency forward and backward
Variprop propellers offer a significant hydrodynamic gain compared to fixed or folding blade models. The manufacturer announces an acceleration of the boat of 15 to 20% depending on wind conditions, thanks to the reduction of drag. The 180° reversing of the blades in reverse allows the same efficiency as forward, increasing the boat's manoeuvrability and safety.
Easy maintenance and installation
Variprop propellers are delivered pre-assembled. The pitch has been preset at the factory according to the characteristics of the boat and motor. The installer can easily mount the propeller in a limited number of operations.
If necessary, the pitch of the propellers can be modified afloat, without disassembly, by a diver. The adjustment is made by means of a screw accessible in the propeller hub.
A patented shock absorbing system is integrated in the hub for durability. It eliminates the jolts associated with sudden changes in pace, increasing the life of the entire propulsion line.
An attractive option in OE
Distributed in France by Fenwick, the standard Variprop propellers are available from stock. Specific requests are available within 3 to 4 days. Only 10% more expensive than a folding propeller, the feathering propeller, which is acclaimed as a retrofit, could prove to be a relevant option from the first fitting for pleasure boaters looking for performance.
