Record results for the Yamaha Group
The Japanese group Yamaha Motor Co presented its consolidated results for fiscal 2017 on February 13, 2018. Total net sales for its activities ranging from industrial robots to water treatment plants, motorcycles and the entire marine sector amounted to 1.6 billion yen, up 11.1% compared to 2016. Net profit for shareholders is estimated at 101.6 million yen. Its increase is 60.9% compared to the previous fiscal year.
Strong increase in marine activity in 2017
Yamaha Motor Co's marine business includes the production of outboard engines, jet skis and pleasure boats such as Pacific Craft and Capelli. Net sales in 2017 reached 323.8 million yen, up 9% compared to 2016. Operating profit was 59.5 million yen, up 7.4%.
The Japanese group indicates that its production of boats has increased in volume following the acquisition of boat builders in Europe and the United States. It is also pleased with the improvement in its profit thanks to the evolution of its product mix and the increase in sales of high-power outboard engines in Europe and North America.
A system offer
Yamaha wishes to develop a complete offer through the acquisition of manufacturers of peripheral equipment for boats in North America.
Growth in 2018
The Japanese group sets more modest targets for fiscal 2018. It expects total sales of 1.7 billion yen, up 1.8%. Profit would increase by 1.4% to 103 million yen.
