Overall results up
The Brunswick group announced an overall increase in sales in the second quarter of 2017. They rise from $1.24 billion in 2016 to $1.35 billion. Net income amounted to $119.4 million compared to $108.1 million last year.
A dynamic outboard market
The marine engines department posted sales of $766.2 million, up 6%. International sales accounted for 28% of total sales and grew by 11%. Segment operating income was $148.2 million, up almost $10 million from 2016. Sales growth was driven by the dynamism of the Mercury and Mariner outboard brands and the accessories and spare parts business. In contrast, the sterndrive market was down in the last quarter.
Boat sales up
The Brunswick boat division also posted sales up 12% to $412.1 million. International sales accounted for 27% of total sales and grew by 11%. Segment operating income was $24.7 million, up $2 million from 2016. New Brunswick explains these results by a strong increase in its 3 main types of boats
Optimism for annual results
Mark Schwabero, president of Brunswick, is optimistic for the annual evolution which he estimates between +7% and +8%. "We expect the performance of our marine business to benefit from continued solid growth in the US and international markets, as well as the success of our new products
