Experienced professionals
Sailwood's story is that of four partners. Eric Séchaud, Glen Maine, Fred Zahm and Benoit Lequin have worked together as employees on several occasions, first at Catlantech, then at Arcoa in Lorient. At the end of these adventures, they decided to create Sailwood together. The company, launched in 2015, is based on the skills of each of these seasoned professionals in carpentry, composite and painting.
From joinery to prototyping
Sharing a taste for wood and noting the absence of a specialized carpenter in the Lorient basin, the partners initially focused on carpentry work. They were able to build teak decks or redo the interior of the Planet Solar.
Fred Zahm's knowledge of composites has enabled him to diversify and offer prototyping services. Sailwood built the first modular Nau catamaran and worked on its composite parts.
The company continues to evolve and is now positioning itself as a shipyard in its own right. A house boat is currently under construction at Sailwood.
Boaters and professionals
Through their network, the partners first reached the yachting sector. Refits for private pleasure boaters represent 20 to 30% of the turnover.
Sailwood also works for pleasure boat dealers. They offer the recovery of interior finishes in the event of factory defects or the creation of custom furniture.
Faced with a still unstable boating market, Sailwood is also looking to develop in work boats. The team works notably on new or refit trawlers.
Recruitment in view
Beyond the partners, Sailwood has already been able to hire two employees. With the development of the activity, the company would like to be able to perpetuate soon two new jobs and to increase the number of people working in the company to 7.
Thanks to its versatility, Sailwood has found its place in the nautical landscape of Lorient.
