O-Yachts had come to Cannes (September 2016) to present their future project: the Class 6, a 64-foot catamaran intended for large cruising with a reduced crew. Built with top of the range materials (including a lot of carbon).
This catamaran is not like the others. On his cradle Laurent Bourgnon (before his death) leaned over his cradle. There is in the design of this catamaran all the multihull knowledge acquired by this great sailor.
Instead of thinking of a sailboat with a reinforced lateral structure (large connecting arm), the designers thought of making a longitudinal spine in the centre of the boat. A kind of third hull on which the mast rests and which takes up the efforts of the rigging (props). This structure is part of the hull and is integrated into the mold even if it is draped with 26 layers of carbon!
Today the hull mould is made in the yard in Latvia. We can see that the junction with the bridge will be at the step level and not at the bridge level as is often the case.
The interior design was entrusted to an outside firm (Absolute Design in Vence 06). They imagined a sailboat with 4 th and whose kitchen under the deckhouse will be in the form of a central island framed by 2 bars (one of which is unfoldable to increase the seats).
On the manoeuvring side, this sailboat will be entirely assisted by a hydraulic power unit which will manage 2 jacks in the boom for the mainsail, the swivelling mast as well as the 3 furlers (including that of Code 0).
The first boat will be delivered in 2017 (probably towards the end of the year).
